In the good old days when Nokia ruled, you could always seem to find someone with a charger for your phone no matter where you went. These days even Nokia has several different chargers for it’s suite of phones not to mention every other manufacturer.
Well those glory days could be back soon as The EU commission threatened legislation against mobile phone manufacturers unless they sorted it out.
The Guardian reports that ten manufacturers including Apple, LG, Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson have all signed up to offer Micro-USB style chargers by 2010. You probably already have a few of these lying around, they connect digital cameras and other electronic goods to your PC or Mac.
The overall aim is not only to make consumers lives easier but to reduce electronic waste and energy consumption.
