Got forwarded this by good pal @frasiocht, a great video digging into the science of motivation and why so many smart, highly skilled individuals put so much time and effort into things that are given away free, such as Linux and Wikipedia.

Conceptual and creative thinking is inspired by 3 factors once you pay people fairly and get money out of the way, autonomy, mastery and purpose.

Fascinating stuff.

Birdbox is quite simply, an iPhone application that turns your phone into a Birdbox, with added alarm functionality. When the alarm goes off, the clock face disappears to reveal birds nesting along with chirping audio to wake you.

What I like about this app is how the creators make money. The download is free but you have to pay for the self-assemble card BirdBox, which comes in a variety of styles. When you open the lid the iPhone pops out. Nice!

Never dawned on me to combined papercraft and mobile applications but it’s definitely a beautiful combo. Loving the creativity, could easily work with print advertising.

Brands should give these sorts of things out at events rather than pens and mouse mats.

Check this out, Tokyo-based creative agency SET has developed this sexy looking QR code using artwork from Takashi Murakami to promote the work that the two have done together. The code sends you to this site.

I would say this is exactly the type of work that agencies need to be showcasing to brands to get them on board with QR codes. There is a big need for slaping logos and artwork over these things. It often just requires a bit of creative thought. For example check out the rest of the designs from SET for other brands:

It’s like a never ending party for your eyes.

The company called BooneOakley used features within YouTube such as annotations to create an interactive video representation of a homepage for the company.

What you see in the video below is the whole BooneOakley.com website,  the actual URL of www.booneoakley.com goes to YouTube!

What better way to pay tribute to MJ then by creating an Eternal Moonwalk made from thousands of videos sent in by Internet users. The directions for the video are simple, moonwalk in from the right, exit from the left. The site then pieces the videos together to keep that badass moonwalk going.

Nike did this 3 years ago with an online campaign called ‘The World’s Longest Soccer Chain‘ (no longer online) as part of Joga Bonito. The videos worked in the same way as the Eternal Moonwalk, where the ball needed to come into the frame from the left, the person would do a skill, then kick it out to the right, Nike then pieced all these together. Nike actually got a massive amount of user entries as well as a few clips from famous footballers here and there (see examples below)

I think this is a pretty good example of consumer generated content (CGC) done well, the campaign is closely related to the brand and taps into the fun side of the great game.

This caught my eye walking down Oxford Street last week, liking the new circus style theme they have on the Selfridges store front at the moment.

Spotted this in Fulham a few days ago and took the snap on my mobile, at first I thought it might be a copycat but if you look closer it’s flying CCTV cameras and an archer trying to shoot them down, probably a deep message in there somewhere.
